Basically, there is Linda the poet, Linda the artist and just Linda. I would say these days I'm first and foremost Linda the Poet since I am in the middle of my MFA in Creative Writing with a focus on poetry at UT-Pan American. My writing tends to take a creative non-fiction turn as well depending on what I'm writing. But I tend to focus more on social justice issues, gender and identity.
In Fall 2010 I started what was then as service learning opportunity as part of a class assignment or my Advanced Creative Writing class. Four years later, it is a growing women's writing group housed in El Milagro Clinic in McAllen called Vidas Cruzadas. We are currently going through the process of making VC a non-profit organization.
My life as Linda the artist is not as developed as that of poet, but I enjoy painting on canvas and wood, and have recently been teaching myself mixed media techniques. I am a self-taught artist who enjoys learning to use different media and how they work on various surfaces.
In addition to poet and artist, I am a daughter, sister, friend and teacher's aide born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas.
